I have a corrupt CSAPI3T1.DLL and don't know what it is or does??

Gateway 233 P-II with 320RAM, Win98SE & Office 2000. I went to
Start/Program/Accessories/System Tools/
System Information/Tools/System File Checker and ran the application.

It found CSAPI3T1.DLL corrupt. I had nor do I have ANY idea what this is.
Using Start/Find/Files or Folders on the hard drive C:\, the system does not
fined the file, however it is located at C:\Program Files\Common
Files\Microsoft Shared\Proof along with 7 or 8 others.

How do I safely fix this and in what manner? Thanks

What is the problem you are trying to fix? The file you mention is part of
the spell check function of Outlook Express, but it's not usually required
with Windows 98. Do you have a word processing application with spell
checking installed? If so, is spell checking in Outlook Express working?

I'm concerned that this file needs fixed/replaced. The application that I
ran from System Tools found the file to be corrupt. Find Files or Folders
did not locate the file yet it resides at the mentioned location. How do I
fix the corrupt file, if that is necessary. I intentionally mis-spelled 4 or
5 words in this email the Outlook Express corrected each one. Is this one of
those much ado about nothing?

That is precisely what it sounds like.

System File Checker is not even close to being infallible. The file may
simply have been updated and the SFC database not updated as well. Now the
data in the SFC database doesn't match the file, which the quite simplistic
SFC interprets as "corruption".

If you do not have a spelling problem in Outlook Express, do not attempt to
'fix' this file. Tell the system file checker that the file is OK.
