Post subject: Where did my 'Contacts' list go?? Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>inetexplorer>ie6_outlookexpress (more info?)
Very strange situation here.. following various automatic updates I can no
longer see the names in the 'Contacts' list. All it says is there are no
contacts. However, my address book is fine and when I 'Add a Contact' it does
not appear in the 'Contacts' view pane but is added to the address book.
Is there something I've inadvertantly done to remove the contact names (the
Contacts pane is visible). I've even tried 'Importing' the address book from
Outlook (the contacts are all visible in Outlook) but even though it does
import and the message says import successful there are still no names in the
Contact pane.
Interestingly enough, when I compose a message using a name from the
contacts list the full e-mail address autocompletes so OE must be referencing
this from somewhere.
I've even tried restoring to an earlier date but that didn't restore the list.
Any clues as to how I can see the 'Contacts' list?

How many entries are there in your Address Book? At some point, (999 I
believe), the Contacts Pane will appear empty.

An update for MS Outlook is most likely to blame.
Do you have this Registry key?...
HKEY_CURRENT_USER
\Software
\Microsoft
\WAB
\WAB4
If not, STOP; If so, is there a DWORD named UseOutlook and is its value set
to 1 (one)?
If not, STOP; If so, Address Book is configured to share contacts with
Outlook, even if you don't use it (can happen with the install of Office).
Change the value to 0 (zero), Address Book should be available to you and
all should be well. (If that DWORD is not present, don't create it, and
don't alter any other DWORD values.)
Note that any changes (additions, deletions, edits) made while sharing was
enabled will not be available (displayed) in Address Book when sharing is
disabled.

Have you tried disabling the contacts pane and then re-enabling it?

Yes, in the 'View' options - tried selecting and de-selecting 'View Contacts'
options but to no avail.

Did you try deselecting, exiting OE, opening OE and selecting?

Thanks for the reply, checked the registry - don't have a 'UseOutlook'
Checked registry entries with other pc on the network that does display the
contacts and both registry's are the same.
Interestingly enough, if I switch identities (I have an old identity for
archived e-mails) it displays the contacts - not the full address book but
only a few addresses, this is because this list was culled for the old
identity. This makes me think that there is a seperate 'Contacts list' that
is used by OE from the main address book.
Switching back does not restore the Contacts list.
Still puzzled!

Thanks for the reply - I have 201 contacts
Just removed some old ones to get to 198 but still no joy.
