Tools>>Options>>Security>>Custom Level

The settings are blank

Any ideas how to get them back?

I have tried resetting to default and reapplying sp3 no luck.

Does the computer-in-question belong to you or your employer or school?

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current?

Has a(nother) Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this
machine (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought
it)?

Thanks for your response.

Computer belongs to me

Avast! version 4.8 Home Edition subscription current /SpyBot 1.6.2.0

Norton Antivirus 2004 was pre-installed and was long ago removed.

I tried disabling Avast! on-access and SpyBot the results are the same, also
tried safe-mode.

Did you ever download/run the Norton Removal Tool?

It was so long ago, I don't recall. I actuall think I did a clean install
with my own copy of XP Pro and never restored the factory av software because
Norton is always trouble.

The security settings used to be accessible because I configure the machine
at one time to allow me to run Active X controls locally.

Could we explore some other possibilities?

1a. Close all open applications (i.e., anything with a taskbar icon)

1b. Start | Run | (copy/paste) regsvr32 /n /i inetcpl.cpl | OK

1c. Reboot.

2. If no joy, see http://windowsxp.mvps.org/ie/secchangesettings.htm

You're most welcome & thanks for your feedback.

QED: How did it get disabled to begin with?
