Post subject: Blank Error Message When Sending Emails
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>inetexplorer>ie6_outlookexpress (more info?)

Okay, this just started a few days ago, but when I goto send emails, the
send/receive box comes up, sends the email, but then says the usual, "Some
errors occured whiel processing the requirested tasks. please review the
list of erros below for more details" The problem is, the white area below
that usually displays what the error is, is empty! Now the email does
actually send, but it still sits in the outbox, so it keeps resending it self
everything the program send/receives. I have tested the email account on
different computers and it worked fine there. I've tried "uninstalling" and
"reinstalling" outlook by removing it and then readding it to the components
list, but that didn't do a thing. I've thought about switching to Outlook to
just solve the problem, but the issue there is that a LOT of the contacts
(about 500) are sorted by Folders in the address book, and folders don't
transfer over to Outlook.

I've also tried creating a new identity in Outlook Express, but that didn't
help either.

ANY help is MUCH apprecaiated, I'm getting ready to rip my hair out! haha

Thanks,
Colin

Please don't refer to Outlook Express as Outlook. That is a different
program.

Start by creating a new folder and moving all your messages from Sent Items
to it, and then compact your folders.

Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are
open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the
Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until
the compacting is completed.

Then: Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant
layer of protection that eats up CPUs, slows down sending and receiving, and
causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes
and has even been responsible for lose of messages. Your up-to-date A/V
program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see:
http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

If you still have a problem:

Do the following for the Outbox, and if the problem persists, repeat for
Sent Items after you move any messages you wish to save to a local folder
you create.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder will reveal the location of
your Outlook Express files. Press the Tab key to highlight the folder
location, then Ctrl+C. Close OE, then Start | Run | Ctrl+V will put the
location in the box - Click OK and you'll see the OE files. Otherwise, write
the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer.

In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K3, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default
marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable
Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options
Icon | View, or in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View.

With OE closed, find the DBX file for the folder in question {Outbox.dbx}
and delete it. A new one will be created automatically when you open OE.

General precautions for Outlook Express:

Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They will eventually become
corrupt. Create your own user defined folders for storing mail and move your
mail to them. Empty Deleted Items folder regularly. Keep user created
folders under 100MB, and Default folders as empty as is feasible.

After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while
working *offline* and do it often.

Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are
open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the
Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until
the compacting is completed.

Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer
of protection that eats up CPUs and causes a multitude of problems such as
time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A/V program will
continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see:
http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

In Tools | Options | Maintenance: Uncheck Compact messages in background and
leave it unchecked. {N/A if running XP/SP2}.

Hi Bruce,

Thank you for your detailed reply. However, after moving over half of the
sent items into an archive folder that I created, and then compacting all
folders like you recommended (however, at a couple of points throughout it,
it stoped and said that outlook or another program was using the files, so I
clicked okay, and it continued. It was set to working offline), I rebooted
the computer, and for the first 3 emails i sent out, it worked like a charm.
After that, the problem came back again Sad

I then tried deleting the outbox.dbx file with success, however, it did not
resolve the issue.

To try to narrow the issue down, I went and recompacted all of the folders
like you had suggested again, so see if it would again temporarily fix the
problem. Unfortunately it did not. So I'm back to square one.

ANY other recommendations?

Thank you very much for your help,
Colin

Per my first reply:

<QP>
Do the following for the Outbox, and if the problem persists, repeat for
Sent Items after you move any messages you wish to save to a local folder
you create.
</QP>

Move ALL your messages out of Sent Items and then close OE and delete Sent
Items.dbx like you did the Outbox.dbx.

Open OE and compact again.

Do /not/ archive any messages in the Inbox, Sent Items, or Deleted Items.
