Post subject: vista crashes when I try to play a game
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>games (more info?)

I am on my third computer to try and get some of my games to play in
vista, they either won't load or if they do they crash with a loud audio noise
wich means I have to do a inproper shut down.what do you have in your system
I hear you ask,well I have an asus striker 11 mother board,quad 2.4gig
processor and 4 gig of platinum ram,my video card is the latest gforce
9800gxs.I have downloaded all the latest drivers, but can't install vista
service pack 1,tried all everything microsoft said to do but it still won't
play if you pardon the pun.

This new system has cost me a little over £950 and the staff at the computer
shop run and hide when they see me coming,I can't be the only one that has
come across this problem??? any helpful suggestions would be greatly recieved.

thanks

Chris

Why have you posted to this XP group? Surely
microsoft.public.windows.vista.games is more obviously the one you need??
And if you do post there, try including a little pertinent detail, such as
the actual names of these problematic games, and clarifying what you mean by
"load" - "install" or "play".

I'm not familiar with Vista, but not being able to install its Service Pack
speaks to me of something more fundamentally wrong than just needing to do
some tweaks to get certain games to "load". You might want to post
separately about that to an appropriate Vista group and include details of
how it goes wrong, error messages etc.

Finally (or perhaps that should have been "first"), I'd suggest seeking
satisfaction from the place you bought this system. Ask to see the manager
of these folk who "run and hide"; escalate further if necessary. If the kit
isn't of "merchantable quality" (and you're sure that the problem is with
the kit, not a quirk of Vista or its compatibility with your unnamed games
or anything you've doen to the OS since purchase), demand your money back -
NOT a repair. If you accept a repair, your rights change. Then go and buy
from somewhere that offers at least adequate service.
