How do I turn off the system sounds in win xp
I thought it was simple - I went to, ctrl panel>sounds and selected 'no
sounds' as the scheme, but I am still getting the system sounds.
What am I doing wrong?

I must not understand the problem. Can't you mute
sounds by:
right click on the speaker icon on the System Toolbar
and check Mute.
OR: double click and check MUTE ALL in the Master
Volume Control pane.

Yes I did save the previous scheme, then set the scheme to no sounds, but
still no luck - I found a workaround by disabling every sound in my current
scheme, but you shouldn't have to do that right, that's why there's an
option for 'no sounds'
I'll take a look at the web site in your link.
I didn't choose the mute option as this mutes all sounds, not just the
system sounds, I like to listen to music on my pc but find all the system
sounds very annoying.
Thanks for your posts.

Had a look myself - it's just a guide to what you've already done. You may
find some of the follw-up comments at the bottom of interest, though.
