I notice that the address bar in taskbar ([right-click on
taskbar]-[toolbars]-[address]) is removed by SP3. Is there any method to
recover it? Thanks.

To open program/folder/file/url directly instead of 'start-run-balabala' or
'open explorer/ie first and type address'.
To record some data temporarily, such as a phone number.
To treat it as a 'buffer' of clipboard.

I could find no mention of that in the white papers or release notes or issues..
I sent Microsoft feedback about it. However, some users confirmed it was removed
so I will not install sp3 until I find a reliable fix. Searching Microsoft finds
this about the removal and there is some mention of replacing a .dll (how safe
is that?)
http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2589449&SiteID=17

And see this:
http://www.systemsabuse.com/2007/12/27/xp-service-pack-3-sp3-where-did...-toolba

Include in your reasons it is always visible and easier to type into if you are
working from a paper copy.

It is removed. There was concern about an EU ruling concerning the
integration of IE components so MS decided to play it safe and just removed
it.

But where is it documented?
Should not a person be forewarned before downloading SP3 that an
essential option is being removed? And what in the world does it have to
do
with IE. Your default browser is used for the web.

That is the reason MS has given for months. In any case, forewarned
smorewarned, its gone by design.

See this thread from the forum and take note of the quote from msft-jayaramk
third item down:
"We had to remove the address bar functionality due to legal restrictions.
The release notes carries this as a known issue."
http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2587494&SiteID=17

No one can find it in the release notes, but it was removed for legal
reasons, misplaced or otherwise. There is a third party solution referenced
here:
http://www.systemsabuse.com/2007/12/27/xp-service-pack-3-sp3-where-did...-toolba

And the link to the third party address bar is here:
www.muvextoe.com/release/muvenumaddressbarsetup.exe

Since MS is not going to do any more with SP3 now it is safe to say the
address bar is gone for XP SP3 users and the third-party solution is all
there is.
