Two problems with XP SP3

I started with Win XP 32bit sp2 everything running fine, installed
sp3 and ran into two problems:
First - windows explorer was very slow in displaying file names - this
occurred in explorer itself, but also in any file dialog. This
problem has cleared up - I am not sure which of the various things did
it - I changed the display options, but have set them all back - I
increased the page space from the system managed, installed net
framework 2.00. In any case, the problem seems to have completely
gone away and everything is running fine except:

Second problem - Quickbooks 2003 AND 2005 (the only versions I have
tried) BOTH take five minutes to load! Once the program is loaded,
it works fine and I can change company files without any delay at all.
It has nothing to do with the data file. Something is delaying in
the program load. I reinstalled 2005, but no improvement. I have
googled everything I could think of, but can find nothing.

One peculiar thing: while the Loading Quickbooks window is on the
screen for a while, the Explorer window "blinks", i.e. the files
panel is reset. I have never seen this behaviour before. But then, I
have never had to sit here for five minutes watching either.

(To answer the inevitable question, I am an accountant and run
multiple versions of qb on multiple files because that is what my
clients have.)

Thanks for reading my problem and I hope you have a suggestion,

Bob Taylor
