found a way of exit'ng the icon by the clock...
x the window... then bring-up your taskbar... (mightn't be a required step)
right click on the icon in bar... <exit>

It is easier to turn it off completely so it doesn't load automatically.
Just go to to Messenger's Tools, Options, and Preferences tab and turn
it off from starting when you boot Windows.
