You may feel better, but if you would read the posting from Martyn Lovell more carefully, I think you would conclude that the correct answer was to tell Windoctor to ignore the problem. Then Norton would be happy too, and you would avoid the many potential problems that Mr. Lovell listed. The problem is in Windoctor, not in the .dll files. I had the same problem which led me to this forum and I just told Windoctor to ignore the 10 files and now Windoctor is happy too. You think you have fixed the problem, but all you have done is applied a band-aid which could lead to further problems for you later.

My thanks to You as well as to Mr Lovell for the suggestions that made to best sense.... I was tempted earlier to attempt to douwnload that missing DLL but didnt feel comfortable with the direction. I'm glad that I waited for this thread to play itselt out.

I (too) told Windoctor to "ignore" the problem.

I've also had the joy of the missing "msvcr80.dll" file. I've copied it into the Microsoft / Frameword / vs 2 and Norton seems to have stopped burping.
Am I reading it right when I understand I should actually delete it out of that area? Please advise.

Apparently in the .net Framework 2.0 there are 3 missing files:

msvcm80.dll
msvcp80.dll
msvcr80.dll

All of which I have pasted into System32

I have asked Microsoft for an explanation, but received nothing yet.

Hi everyone.

Let me clarify some things

a) Do NOT copy msvcr80, msvcp80 or msvcm80 to system32, or to the framework directory, or to the VS directory. They do not belong in any of those places.

b) If you've already put the files in these places, please delete them.

c) You can safely tell WinDoctor to ignore this problem. You could also let Symantec know about the problem.

d) If you're working with Microsoft support and not getting a clear answer, have them talk to me.

Please feel free to contact me directly if you have more questions, as I don't read this forum regularly.

I'd like to thank you for this information. I was almost to the point where the sledge hammer was looking really good... LOL. Windoc was suggesting that I might need to reinstall.... Mad ... not my most favourite thing in the world to do.

I checked to make sure that the msvcr80.dll.. was snug where it was supposed to be. Told Windoc to shut up.. Wink

Rowen ... where is this msvcr80.dll supposed to be? The answers to any questions on this forum are rumbling in like a little herd of wild scorched turtles!!?!
Your reply would be appreciated. Remember to type slowly so I can understand what you are saying.
