Post subject: games recenlty crashing laptop Add to elertz
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>help_and_support (more info?)

Most recently from (May 2008 and on) my games have started to hard crash my
laptop no warnings, no blue screen, just a flat out black screen and the
laptop literally turns off. Before the posted date I could play games without
any glitches what so every it was smooth sailing.

Anyway, here is a list of the games I have and had on my laptop.

Command & Conquer: Zero Hour (modded) - current in system
Star Trek: StarFleet Command II (modded) - current in system
Homeworld 2 (modded) - current in system
Americas Army - current in system
AVP2 (modded)
Call of Duty
Medal of Honor

I have consolidated my games one is on the C drive and three are on D which
is my partition drive.

Here's what I believe caused the rest of my games to crash. I DL and
installed a mod to my Homeworld 2. The mod is called Homeworld Battle Star
Galactic mod. As soon as I started the mod the game mod would cease and close
returning to the desktop. I started the mod again and eventually it worked
except when I began to build the fleet of ships.

Now after the serious crashes I read the forums from the mod site and found
out that the models are really high poly, plus the mod designers are using
new shader codes for their mod.

Which I think after researching, their mod may have corrupted my
'performance counters' or something because I have never ever had any issues
with the games listed above to crash my laptop period. Could it be a
Microsoft update that I don't know I installed not allow buffer overflow to
prevent virus code execution (DEP). Please help

Thank You
