"Now for the bad news.
I assume your installation of Outlook was included in the Microsoft
Office Suite of programs (typically, Office 2003 or 2007).
Provided you are using the recommended security settings on your
computer, the Microsoft Update utility delivers and installs security
updates at regular intervals. Security updates for Outlook 2003 / 2007
usually include a monthly update to the Outlook Junk Mail Filter. Some
"genius" at Microsoft has decided that updates to Outlook automatically
change the default mail client to Outlook. Consequently, the problem
will recur at regular intervals.
There is no easy remedy. You could change the security settings, to
prompt before installing updates. If you don't use Outlook, you could
uninstall the program.
Probably, the easiest solution would be to check your default account
settings at regular intervals - and if necessary, re-set the default
mail client to Outlook Express."

Some more information.
"It's a quite straightforward matter to customise Outlook 2003 so that
installing patches doesn't change either the default mail client or
address book. See KB933450 "Outlook 2003 is incorrectly configured as
the
default mail client every time that you perform an Office installation
or
Office update that modifies Outlook"
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933450). for details. The easiest
method
being to use regedit and look for the two 02:\ strings (Method C), one
for
mail and one for the address book (there is a third for the calendar),
remove them (not the calendar entry) and then perform an Office/Outlook
repair via Add/Remove Programs. The one difficulty is where the user
has
for deleted the MSOCache folder and is then asked to insert the Office
CD
which s/he has either lost or worse, with OEM installs, never
possessed."

When you update Office, it makes Outlook the default mail handler (if
I've read correctly). Reset Sylpheed as the default mail handler and it
should start working again. Then forward the mail from Outlook to
yourself again.
You might be able to change the default using "Set Program Access and
Defaults". Otherwise you might have to reinstall Sylpheed to
re-associate it with email.
