the good news: that site fixed my modem issue.
the bad news: it did nothing for my lan/wireless issues.
back to the drawing board...
by the way, the wireless drivers from the french site are the same generic drivers posted earlier in this thread. unfortunately, they just dont work for me.

i have a wireless router, yes. But i'm doing a rebuild on a different vaio as well - albiet one that came installed with XP - and i was able to get up and running no prob. my problem, unlike yours, is that when i'm in device manager i don't even HAVE a wireless card listed! I just have 2 unidentefied ethernet contollers with conflicts.
You can't get the drivers free there but at least you'll know what to look for.It found everything except the modem.Wich I found on one of the thousand Sony websites.:
That's how I found ethernet driver, the link does'nt go directly on where I was,go figure:Click on driver on top to do a search and enter 88e8001 it's on the second page for XP

your marvell site worked beautifully, thank you! driveragent, however, offered no respite. it told me i had a bad driver for my one remaining ethernet controller , but it does not tell me the type.
