What would any of you think if you discovered your system littered with errors after Norton checked it and said everything was fine? You'd likely want those errors removed, right? So, would anybody intentionally introduce errors into their system that Norton couldn't find? Sound silly? Well, that's exactly what some here are doing by ignoring martinl's warning and advice - just so Norton will stop reporting non-errors as errors. On their website, Norton advises us to do exactly what martinl suggested - configure One Button Checkup to ignore those dlls. When you do that, WinDoctor will ignore them, too.
If you're still on the thread Martin, I'd like to thank you for preventing me from cobbling up my system in ways I might not know about until something went haywire. Thanks for being there for us.

WOW! I'm so glad I found this thread BEFORE I did something majorly disasterous and stupid! I, too, was informed by Norton SystemWorks that I am missing both the msvcr80.dll file for msn messenger, which might explain why when trying to webcam with friends I encounter problems, as well as the hpgreg32.dll file for HP Digital Imaging.
I remembered a website that was free though accepted donations and it's sole purpose was/is to provide missing .dll files, so I went to google to find it. I didn't, which is probably a good thing now, however, I did find and download something called PC MightyMax, a program that seeks out and corrects such problems.
It appeared to be free, but after scanning my computer and finding 341 problems, none of which included the two missing .dll files, I was informed that in order to "correct" these problems I had to purchase the unlock key for the program. Well, I printed out the report it generated listing all the "problems" it found, than I promptly deleted the program and went on to find this thread. THANK GOODNESS!
Has anyone else encountered such situations and if you have and actually followed through with such a program, did it help at all? I ask because, while my Norton SystemWorks work corrected all of the other problems it found, except the missing .dll files, my computer still takes an unusually long time to be fully active, each time I first boot up. But otherwise causes me very few problems.
I look forward to hearing your responses. In the meantime, I will instruct Norton SystemWorks to exclude the two missing .dll files if future scans, per what I've read here. THANKS ALL![/i]

First of all NET 2.0 is OPTIONAL so don't use it!
MSVCR80.dll is missing for Adobe, and Motorola software as well..HMM!!
It seems ridiculous that Symantec has not addressed this problem and speaks volumes to me about their programmers. They know the new file name and location. It would be very simple to me to write code to refer to the other location (if/then??) Symantec products are now over complicated slow and bloated. They add too many processes to any system and slow start up time significantly. I am not too fond of MS right now either due to their aggressive push for their Windows Live Security product. They are moving towards software "rental" services and before too long we will be paying for information on the web. I have experienced personally a situation where the MS Live security prevented the re-install of NIS2006/5 and System works. That's right...The MS product is a one way street to dependance on it. They seemed to accomplish this feat by corrupting Symamntec's live update. Once this is done nothing can help you get ANY of you Symantec products to install. I was recently told by a programmer at a MAJOR manufacturer (guess) that these companies are at odds with eachother now that MS is trying to do security and system maintenance. So don't expect a solution at all...

I just want to thank you for being around: I had this same problem and
did not know what to do. By going to "ask.com" I came across this
thread and following the instructions included, my problem has been
corrected. Thank PC Banter and Carol.
