Dear Carol & group as of 02/20/2006 Symantec Corp Put out a Doc on there website to IGNORE THE ERRORS in windoctor or one button checkup If you have copied the Dll to any otherdirectory i.e system or system32 or other goto safe mode and delete those copies.

here is the link to the symantec website

thanks martyn, you saved me and others some grief.

i tried to let symantec know about the problem but internet explorer crashed when i entered their website. Disappointing since it is a fresh installation of xp pro with only the microsoft patches applied, totally up to date. Only those patches *and* systemworks 2006 installed so far.

Which brings me to a rant not directed at you and admittedly off track: I do curse "this dysfunctional system" since I'll pay for the next releases because the bugs are there and it doesn't seem right that the monopoly gets one release deeper and wealthier for the bugs.

On the technical side, it would be helpful if the OS could be divided comprehensibly into components that have an associated list of files and processes (in task manager).

Best regards, Jeff

Hi everyone.

Let me clarify some things

a) Do NOT copy msvcr80, msvcp80 or msvcm80 to system32, or to the framework directory, or to the VS directory. They do not belong in any of those places.

b) If you've already put the files in these places, please delete them.

c) You can safely tell WinDoctor to ignore this problem. You could also let Symantec know about the problem.

d) If you're working with Microsoft support and not getting a clear answer, have them talk to me.

Please feel free to contact me directly if you have more questions, as I don't read this forum regularly.

Apparently in the .net Framework 2.0 there are 3 missing files:

msvcm80.dll
msvcp80.dll
msvcr80.dll

All of which I have pasted into System32

I have asked Microsoft for an explanation, but received nothing yet.

Hi Daniel

Me i found msvcm80.dll, msvcp80.dll and msvcr80.dll on http://down-dll.com/dll_M.htm

I'd like to thank you for this information. I was almost to the point where the sledge hammer was looking really good... LOL. Windoc was suggesting that I might need to reinstall.... ... not my most favourite thing in the world to do.

I checked to make sure that the msvcr80.dll.. was snug where it was supposed to be.

Rowen ... where is this msvcr80.dll supposed to be? The answers to any questions on this forum are rumbling in like a little herd of wild scorched turtles!!?!
Your reply would be appreciated. Remember to type slowly so I can understand what you are saying.

At this point in time.. I have no idea... LOL.. I googled the issue and read as much as I could before doing anything. That's how I found the info.

Since then, I've had to reinstall... for other reasons... and have had major issues with Framework. I've since removed framework and haven't had any problems. Unfortunately, I forsee many problems with not having framework installed.

I wish I could be more help. The only thing I can suggest is researching as much as u can prior to taking any action. I find there are many ppl who have different opinions for a specific problem.. but every computer is unique.. and every computer will have different reactions.... as well as different solutions.
Computers are just as tempermental as my family LOL

Yo ho Rowen ... thanks for the reply. I've deleted the file under discussion out of the Framework a couple weeks back, and nothing has hicupped yet, other than the washing-machine just happened to make a weird noise.

I'm still wondering why Symantec has just put a fix telling WinDoctor to just ignore ... why didn't they go to the root of the matter and just fix it totally. It could be that Peter Norton fled the coupe and they're not sure what to do. :-}

I would like to thank everyone who posted in this thread, I never expected to find all this information just by doing a Google for msvcr80.dll. I don't know why but I thought I would be the only one with this problem, this is just one more reason not to like Norton or at least their SystemWorks. I had trouble with their 2003 and now with 2006 Premier. Oh well, enough venting.

Most of all I would like to thank "martynl" for convincing me not to just put msvcr80.dll in the Windows > Microsoft .NET > Framework > v.2.0.507 file and I would also like to thank "bob2780" for posting the link to the Symantec web site verifying everything "martynl" said. THANK YOU BOTH!!!!!

Now I only wonder why if Symantec knows about the problem why they don't fix it. TYPICAL
