Suddenly, after a power outage, my computer does not even show that I have an
E drive (my DVD/CD drive) on my computer! Help!

Launch Device Manager and see if that
drive has a Yellow Question Mark on it.
You can launch Device Manager by going
to...Start/Run and type or copy/paste
devmgmt.msc
Then press enter.

John...in device manager there is what looks like a yellow exclamation mark
on the DVD hardware. When I click on troubleshooting, I get the message
"windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot
find the hardware device (Code 41)". Any suggestions? I looked at the article
you suggested but they could not help me there.

Maybe the following articles will lead to something useful:
(314060) You can no longer access the CD
drive or the DVD drive, or you receive an error
message after you remove a CD recording
program or a DVD recording program in
Windows XP: "error code 31"

Thank you very much, John, for your help! Although I didn't resolve WHY this
happened, via searching the articles you suggested I finally tried resetting
my computer to a previous point which DID solve the problem and my DVD/CD
burner appears to be working fine again. I appreciate your help!
