Following the first phase of booting up my PC I am informed via a msg that
Windows is unable to open unless I get rid of the present password and
replace it with another one. Pressing "enter" does away with the msg and my
name appears on the screen. Clicking on OK opens the PC. How do I get rid of
the anoying request? I have never used a password. Nurmi

Narrow down the troubleshooting path:

The First Question Of Troubleshooting: what changed between the time things
worked and the time they didn't?

The Second Question of Windows Troubleshooting: what is the malware/virus
status of the machine? If you think it is clean, what programs (and
versions) did you use to determine this?

Be sure the computer is clean:

Thanks for your answer. 4 weeks ago a request for a password appeared. All
efforts to find the cause failed. I brought the PC to a shop and all the tech
could do was re-format the drive. I re-installed all progr. and a few days
later I saw the above notice.
As far as I know nothing changed. I am not certain the PC is clean, however
it works faultlessly, as fast as ever.

Take it back to the tech and have him/her look at the error message.
Requests for password don't magically appear all by themselves. Something
you are going or installing is making the change.
