MS has downloaded an update Windows Installer 3.1 but it won't
install. Where do I go for help?

My system is XP SP2 with 1gig RAM, tons of HD space.
I have run a Repair and SFC /Scannow.

Many thanks for any help.

Hi,

> Where do I go for help?

Here is fine, you could also use:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windowsupdate

Is there an error code?

Click start/run, type %windir%/windowsupdate.log and click ok. Scroll to the
bottom (most recent activity), see if you can find the event failure and
copy/paste that into a reply to this post.

Thanks Chuck

I now get an error message "KB89380v2 Setup Error - Access is denied -
Installation did not completely install.

It then re-booted and said "Installer not completely restored and may
not work" - sorry, not verbatim but to that effect.

Go to control panel, add/remove programs and remove it. Then try to install it
again.
