Post subject: Viewing anything on Windows XP Add to elertz Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>video (more info?)
I have been having problems with viewing any type of movie or news clip on my
Windows XP. I checked and I have all of my upgrades. The video clip will
start and stop and the audio part is not in sync with the video if the audio
plays at all. Other times the video will start, but stops again and it shows
that buffering is still going on. Someone wrote back and said that I had
too many processes running (I have 56) and I don't know how to get rid of the
"bad" ones without messing up my computer. I know how to work on a computer
but don't know the technical lingo so all answers in plain, easy to
understand English would be preferred.

56 processes are way to many,try R.clicking the task bar,select:task manager
Write down the running processes on paper,close out task mgr.Go to my compu-
ter,search,all file types/include hidden files,etc.Type in the service as
it was
listed in task mgr,see where/what it comes from,if not needed,remove from
add/remove programs..Also,usually its the 3rd party software you need to
remove..

I'm sure you're right about it being too many, but I have 66 processes
currently running on my XP laptop and don't have problems using Movie Maker

I thought I had this one figured out until you said "if the audio plays at
all".
I'd have suggested that the video and audio were not in sync either because
of the lack of memory/number of running processes. Or that it's simply the
way some video codecs are when they are low bit rate (web quality).
The stop-starting and buffering is either because it has not downloaded that
much of the video yet - which can sometimes be helped by pausing it for a
while and letting it all download. Or it may be that it will only buffer a
little at a time and buffer more when that bit is past. Yes, this annoys me
as well.
