I cannot view hidden or system files using Windows XP Professional

When i go to 'folder options' - 'view' and check 'view hidden files' i click
apply, then ok and the folders juts reset to the point where one cannot view
these files.

I have also unchecked 'hide protectected operating system files' as well as
'use simple file sharing' but that has not helped.

Please can someone assist me in viewing these files

I am the admin of my machine

Is this a work computer or a home computer?

Could you security software be interfering?

You need to uncheck the box with "hide extensions for known file types"..

The mere fact that Avast is running on both PCs does not mean it is not
interfering with one of the computers.

You may also have other security software. (At least I hope you do.)

Tosh. What has the hiding or unhiding of certain file *extensions* to do
with viewing hidden or system files?

Marc, have you checked "Display the contents of system folders"?
