Post subject: Video call with Audio/video problems
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>general (more info?)

I placed this post under 2 others newsgroup. I'm also posting here to cover
all the bases. Sorry if I offended anyone. anyway.....

A Lady friend and I have recently experienced problems during Video calls.
They are coming in with garbled audio & with choppy/ freezing videos. This
all started about 2 month ago. Prior to that we NEVER had a problem. What is
causing this problem? Here are some quick facts. I'm using a desktop system
(Home XP with all patches) with a cable modem & router. She is using a 64 bit
Vista system on her wireless Gateway MD2614 laptop. I am guessing it is
related to Windows Live, or our internet connections. At least that is what
the support page for my webcam said (Logitech Pro 9000). From my end I can
usually hear her fine, but video is choppy. From her end, she tells me audio
is very garbled. It gotten so bad that we stopped doing Video calls.
So....HELP! What is causing this to happen? Is it Window Live? Is it a
resource hog program in background? Is it something else entirely? I would
appreciate any and all suggestions. Perhap via a process of elimination we
can resolve this. If I left out some vital info, please let me know. Thanks!

Does this happen if you Video Call someone else? Or is it only with that
Person?

What version of windows live and did you update your Cam driver lately?

Also, make sure your machine and Her machine are clean from malware and
viruses if you both been a victim of file sharing bonanza (infected emails
from a trusted source which their machine also used as a Zombie).

You can forward to her this email and download one of the following app and
run a complete scan after updating the Definitions!

Malwarebytes© Corporation - Anti-Malware

SuperAntispyware - Free

Hi nass, Thanks for the suggestions. I did think of video calling others, But
I was surprised by my lady friend when she video called me the other day on
her brand new Dell Studio 17 Laptop (wireless, 64 bit, windows 7). All of the
issues noted in my original post was resolved. Both Audio & video were in
sync. Apparently the problem was with her Gateway MD2614.

Just to let you know, should others have this problem and look for answers,
we were using the latest version of Windows Live, and oddly enough I did
update my cam software recently (I don't think it updated driver). I use
Spybot S&D, Ad-Adware, and have Zonealarm Internet security on my machine.
She uses Panda, and has malwarebyte on her (I don't know if anything else). I
do know her Gateway was running slow from various things she has told me. One
of those was a problem commmunicating to her printer via wireless. So I had
suspected the problem was at her end. Exactly what was going on with her
Gateway Md2614 remains unknown. Her using the new Dell, I believe, confirms
that her wireless setup at home was ok.

I appreciate you passing on the links, and I really appreciate you taking
the time to help out. We will now explore why the Gateway was acting up.
Thanks!
