Hi

I run WinXP (SP2) on a computer that is part of a large network.
Occasionally I get a dialog box pop up that attempts to install SP1 from a
network source. I usually just cancel it and continue working.

How can I stop this annoying attempt for XP to install a SP update?

Thanks

John

Is it *XP* SP1 that is trying to install?

Sounds like something to go to your IT department about, anyway.

Hi,

After a closer look at the problem it is Access 2000 SP1 which is trying to
install. I do have this program on my computer. Most of the time it happens
is when I open Internet Explorer or when I open some emails.

Thanks

I would be curious as to exactly what software version and update pack is
installed on the system. Start Access and click Help About. If there is no
service pack listed it is the "gold" version and probably should be updated.
The current service pack for Office 2000 is SP3. There are security issues
addressed within the service packs for the Access program.

You need to install SP 1a first (obtain here
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=AF6C8D03-7633...B4-AB96
but watch url wrap)

Then install SP 3 obtainable here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=5C011C70-47D0...06-9FA4 tiny urls for each of the service packs are:SP 1a - http://tinyurl.com/4n4dgSP 3 - http://tinyurl.com/e2bo3Of course if you are on a company machine, you should talk to your ITdepartment to ensure that you are not violating any policy about updatingsoftware. There may be a valid reason that the SPs have not been appliedbut until you ask you won't know.
