Hello NG,
since I have recently reinstalled Windows XP Pro SP3 on a THinkPad
X61s-Machine I experience the following problem:
when I change the value
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\WaitToKillServiceTimeout
from 20000 to 2000 (to speed up the shutdown-process), the value has been
changed back to 20000 five minutes or one reboot later. Does anybody has an
idea why that happens?
Might there be any program on the system that changes back that value?
Thank you in advance,
Jonas

What are you changing values under ControlSet001? That's a backup
registry data set. The one currently in use by your host is under
CurrentControlSet. Don't bother editing the backup sets. You may need
them later after screwing over the registry, unable to boot into
Windows, and need to select "Last known good configuration" when you
boot using the menu. If you putz around in the backup sets, you won't
have a good configuration to go back to.

Thanks for the info. However, it happens when I change it in either
CurrentControlSet, Controlset001 and
COntrolSet002. WHat program could possibly change these settings back?
