Post subject: Printing in Active Directory on HP DeskJet 2500 fails
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>print_fax (more info?)

We have an HP DeskJet 2500 professional networked on an Windows 2000
NT domain print server. Windows XP Professional SP 3 users on the NT
domain can print just fine; however, users that we migrated to Active
Directory that try to print to that printer have the following
problems:

1. Print jobs print either with no text or no graphics (depending on
the driver used)
2. Users can no longer change the printer driver as they used to (NT
domain users still can)

We did look at the notes in
http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windows.server.active_...ectory/
but mapping printers locally isn't possible because they do not (and
cannot) have admin rights.

We are going to download the GDI+ drivers as noted in this link, but
this is really hampering our Active Directory migration.

http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windowsxp.print_fax/br...e_threa

We have changed the GPO to allow printer browsing and to allow users
to add printers and disable the point and print restrictions.

Any thoughts?

Alan may be able to help you but if you need immediate answers, please post
in the Active Directory newsgroup/forum relating to Servers.

thanks for the confidence boast Cari, but this one sounds more like a domain
trust relation thing.

Whatever it may turn out to be, the "Active Directory" phrase makes me
shudder. I need to do some reading up on it, at the AD for Dummies level.
GaGirrl, best to ask in the Servers Networking forums/newsgroups.
