Post subject: Using Older Messenger apllication

I want to get rid of Windows live Messenger because it slows down other
applications on my PC and download an older Msn messenger. but when I do so I
get a window that tells me that I must install the latest Messenger to
continue. How can I stop this, surely I can use an older application.

Greetings,

Some older versions are allowed and some are not. This is because some older versions have
been identified with security holes and therefore those clients have been removed from the
network.

The two main old clients you can use are...
MSN Messenger 7.0:

or Windows Messenger 5.1:
