I have just recently purchased a Nvidia MCP73 model Mobo w/an Intel Pentium
E2200 2.20GHz Dual-Core. I'v noticed lately that I have a noise coming from
my case. I've disconnected everything (HDs, CPU fan and system fan) one by
one and restarted the system everytime. After every restart the noise
persisted. The only thing that I can think of that's left in the case, has to
be the CPU. Is my conclusion correct or it's not possible for CPUs to make
irritating noises? And >IF< I am correct, what does that mean as far as the
health of the CPU? ALSO---> At times... The noise subsides for moments at a
time. Could be anywhere from a few minutes to hours. Afterwards, the noise
starts up all over again.

Can anyone out there give me some CPU info? THANX N ADVANCE!!

A CPU is a solid, sealed unit.
No moving parts.

Motherboard? Power Supply? Heat Sink? Fan? There's never a CPU in a
case without also having a motherboard that the CPU is mounted in.

The CPU has no moving parts, and makes no noise by itself. However the
CPU usually has a heat sink attached to it, and the heat sink usually
has a fan attached to it. If the fail is failing, it can make noise.

*If* the noise is coming from a fan attached to the heat sink on the
CPU, the CPU is likely not getting adequate cooling, and that means
that the CPU may be getting ready to fail.

Your not correct, CPU's cannot make noise. Did your forget about the power
supply being in the case?

That was meant to be "...fan is failing..." but it doesn't matter,
because I originally missed that you said you disconnected that fan
too.

You disconnected the CPU fan and booted? Strange noises aside, that might
not have done the CPU much good...

Do you have a disc in the CD/DVD drive that could be spinning up and down?

I ToTaLLy ForGot about the PSU. I'll hook up another one and see if it comes
up again but it's SO intermittent, I really don't know if that will get me to
my answer. Oddly enough... Since I've booted up this morning it hasn't made
any irritating noises today at all. Later today or tomorrow?... Who knows.
THANX.
