Banzai I was also waiting for Morland's reply to yours; I have the a VGN-FZ140e and currently running XP with all drivers except the camera and the modem. The sound works too, but the laptop speakers are also on when my computer speakers are on too. I do not have exact steps on how to get back sound but i have all the programs/files for it(the sound) to work, and hopefully a helpful solution.

Outoro,
I couldn't get the modem to work until I installed a driver published by realtek. I don't remember where I got it, but the install filder is called "WDM_R173" I think it is an AC 97 audio codec. THe modem doesn't appear until you install it... I think that it's on an audio bus of some sort.
I ended up doing a dual boot... 3 partitions, XP, Vista, and storage. This gives me instant mode!
I never got the Camera, the Sound, or the S buttons working in XP. (They go fine in Vista, though.) The sound is the biggest one on that end... I would be interested in getting the sound going.
If you can't find the realtek driver, PM me an email address. I'll send you the 111 MB folder.
...And where did you get a sound driver? I got close by yanking the vista folder (from the driver section of Vista before I wiped the computer) and using it, but it has an installation error. Can you enlighten me?

Well in Xp i went under device manager, uninstalled the stigmatel high definition audio codec. Then I let windows go through the process of installing the audio driver, by selecting "yes this time only" - "install item from specific location" then i asks for a few files (.dll/.sys) which i googled and then proceeded to let windows load them. Unfortunately this was not enough and had to proceed to i think load "WDM_R179". Then I also had another program recommended by other forums "STDAUD-01108005-UN." This is from what i remember doing to install my sound. Hopefully this works for you. I'm not sure how dual boot works and if it requires more/less steps, good luck. I can just google WDM_R173 thanks anyways.

Damnit i forgot one step is that I think you need to install UAA Bus driver from microsoft, google it and download according to your correct windows version and service pack. I think before installing and googling the .sys files.

Hi Morland,
After I try all the things you sent me and none of them worked, I reinstalled Windows XP with the "Restore" option, try again the Patch KB888111 then KB835221 and finally the driver from the japanese site and FINALLY IT WORKED. So, one more time, the "reinstallation" magic worked again.
Thanks for your time.
Regards
Adrian
