I recently uninstalled the games package that comes with Windows XP Home
(Solitaire, Freecell, etc.). To my surprise, 3D Pinball appeared in the Start
Menu and I cannot see any way to uninstall it. Does any one know where it
came from and how to get rid of it?

The Microsoft games included with Windows XP are system files, and will be
replaced if you delete them. I would suggest if Space Cadet Pinball is
bothering you, just right-click the link on All Programs/Games and delete
the link.

Hi andy133,

To add/remove Windows XP Games: Click START / Control Panel /
Add or Remove Programs / Add Remove Windows Components /
Accessories and Utilities / [Details...] / Games / [Details...] / then check
(or uncheck and then recheck the game) / Click [OK] 3 times to finish.

Pinball is not on that list by default. You may need to use these steps first:

1. Choose Start / Run / Copy+Paste the next line into the RUN box and press [ENTER]:
notepad %SystemRoot%\Inf\Sysoc.inf

2. Scroll down to the line that reads: Pinball=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,pinball.inf,HIDE,7
and delete the word HIDE from the line so it now reads: Pinball=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,pinball.inf,,7

3. Click File / Exit and choose YES to save the changes you made to the file.

4. Click Start / Settings / Control Panel / Add-Remove Programs and follow the
instructions posted in the first paragraph to reinstall Pinball now that it's on the list.

Too easy...

1. Open the run box.
2. Enter: notepad C:\WINDOWS\inf\sysoc.inf
(Change C: if your Windows is on another drive)
3. Find and remove 'HIDE', like this (yes, 2 comma's):
Pinball=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,pinball.inf,HIDE,7
Pinball=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,pinball.inf,,7
4. Save.
5. Open 'Add or Remove Programs' and select
'Add/Remove Windows Components' from the left pane.
6. Highlight 'Accessories and Utilities' and click
'Details...'.
7. Highlight 'Games' and click 'Details...'.
8. Check what you want, uncheck what you don't want.
9. Click OK's and exit.
10. Play! (or don't play).
