Post subject: Max Logon Duration
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>work_remotely (more info?)

There is this problem that I have been wrestling with for a few days.

I have a PC with WIN XP installed in my domain. This PC is only used
remotely by 5 users using Remote Desktop Web Connection. The thing is that
only one user is allowed to be logged on at a time, and that's how it should
be. However some of these users tend to forget to log off, which renders the
PC unusable to the other 4 users while it's just being idle.

Now, I want to limit the Maximum Logon Duration to 6 hours at a time. It
should be as so that if You work for 6 hours and You get logged out, you can
immediatly login again.

I know how to limit users to only be able to login in a certain time period
of the day, or limit the amount of hours a user can be logged on a day, but
none of this is what i need.

I want to be able to login again immediatly after i have been logged out, if
I need to work for more than 6 hours on this PC.

I don't know if it is even possible to define this in WIN XP, but if so, I
would be glad to know.

Disclaimer... I don't work in a domain environment so...

There are some group policies that you can configure to log off idle
sessions, etc.

To look at the Group Policies run gpedit.msc on the Remote Desktop host
machine and navigate to the Local Computer Policy | Computer Configuration |
Administrative Templates | Windows Components | Terminal Services | Sessions
policies.

There are also policies that apply on a user basis no matter what machine
they happen to log onto.

To look at the Group Policies run gpedit.msc on the Remote Desktop host
machine and navigate to the Local Computer Policy | User Configuration |
Administrative Templates | Windows Components | Terminal Services | Sessions
policies
