I have Windows live messenger 8.5.1302.1018 + XP SP2 . I have also
downloaded the following
a.. Microsoft Windows Journal Viewer 1.5.
b.. Microsoft Windows Journal Viewer Security Update.
However, when connected to a friend, they can use their handwriting facility
and send, but I cannot. The error message that comes up is that I need
additional software.
states that XP service pack 3 has to be installed also in order for the
handwriting to work. However, my friend is also on XP SP2 and she can use
the handwriting without any problems.

Greetings,
Actually it indicates that SP3 for Windows 2000 is required. You can use any version of XP.
Have you rebooted since you installing this software? If not, it is a requirement to do so
before you can use this function in Messenger.
