Folder sorting

While using a few different programs, in the 'open' or 'save' dialogue, I always had files and folders displayed in alphabetical order. For some reason it now has changed to the order in which they were created (Modified option). I can manually change it back to alphabetical order by selecting 'Arrange Icons By' and clicking on 'Name' but it doesn't stay that way. Next time I use the program, it again lists the folders and files by order of "Modified" option.
Anyone has a solution to this?
