Hello Richard,
tried that one early on in the search to get rid of the problem, seem to have traced it down to a shortcut on the desktop to AVG free antivirus as soon as I click it the Warning comes up i have totally uninstalled AVG and reinstalled it but the problem persists, also appears when AVG updates. may reinstall Avast Antivirus and remove the AVG first to see what happens THEN Going to wipe the hard drive and do a clean Install
SEE MY POSTING ABOVE THIS ONE
thanks

Hello,
Tried all the solutions that were offered on the site they only lasted a short time. the concensus of opinion is that either your DVD or CDRW or ZIP or FLOPPY drives are faulty, the cure is to put a disc in each one at a time to see which is faulty and either leave a disc in that one or replace the Drive. My Zip Drive was faulty although works and on the Device manager shows no problems, I now leave a disc in the Zip drive all the time and have never had the problem again. Hope this helps. the problems, and hasle , he said to "to reboot the PC all the way"
If you have the cd's to start all over again!!! I do, he made them for me..
I wish there was a better way, but I guess not?

I got the same problem when installing a printer/scanner/copy machine through the Windows Found A New Device-"wizard" (don't know the real name of it) that comes upp when you plug a new device. I thought it all worked out as it was supposed to, but later found out that the scanner didn't work, and that there was a non-working/uninstalled devise in the Device manager. After installing the printer/scanner(..) proparly the problem seems to have disappeared. Additional informtion that someone might find usefull is that under This ComputerManageThe LoggSystem Log it seems like the Exception message is logged and there's some more information. Good luck...

I solved this problem for my computer. Apparently what happened is that I was
working with a Word document in my pen drive; I turned off my computer and
then removed the pen drive. The next time that the computer was rebooted
without the pen drive the message appeared. When I rebooted with the pen
drive in the computer the message went away. I'll try to remove the pen drive
with the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon before turning the computer off to see
if that takes care of the problem completely.

Hi Guys,
Im Graza, i just started getting the annoying msg also and i think it was down to me using my card reader. I recently realised that my cameras card would fit and i could use it to print pic and so on. As soon as i rebooted my system (without the card in the drive) i got this msg. Going by what ive read so far in this post it must be that. Im going to try it with the card in on reboot to see, ill let you know how i get on guys.
