Does anyone know of software that will take an .mp3 (a conference call) and
boost the volume of one person on the line so that it's the same sound level
as the other person?

Thanks!

Well, if you mean as a file, yes. If you mean in real time, no.
As a file, Audacity at audacity.sourceforge.net/ has full volume
compression/normalization routines and more for that purpose. It's free
and worth its weight in gold.

What happened when you tried Audacity? That should have accomplished
what you want.

I went to Audacity first. I couldn't find an effect that would convert the
call to an equal volume for both speakers. Can you enlighten me?

What I ended up doing with Audacity was to highlight the soft parts of the
conversation one at a time and boost each clip by 6db. That worked well.
