Post subject: Device Manager Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>basics (more info?)
When I go into Device Manager under Other Devices there is one open spot with
a yellow question mark and a yellow circle with a black exclamation point in
it. It says PCI Device. Now I had Video and SM BUS and they both had the same
emblems saying that the drivers weren't loaded. I then found the CD that came
with the video card and loaded that up, and then found the CD that came with
the motherboard and loaded that up. Both disappeared. All that is left now is
PCI Device. What does that point to? I have a sound card, which I didn't load
up the drivers, it just started working, and a network card, which worked
without loading any drivers, either. Do you think that this has anything to
do with either the sound card or the network card?
You might ask why I don't run the sound off of the motherboard, and the
network off of the motherboard also. I tried, and it wouldn't work. First the
sound card, and nothing came out of the speakers when I booted it. Then I
tried to get online, and the page wasn't displayed when I plugged it into the
mobo network connector. As soon as I installed a sound card and network card,
I had sound and I was online, immediately after installing both cards. I have
an idea here, that this has something to do with one of the remaining PCI
cards. The video worked, but the scroll button on the mouse wasn't working
properly. The screen was rolling when you used the scroll button instead of
catching the screen and having complete control of the monitor screen. That
was recitified when I loaded up the video card drivers. Even though I was
getting a picture on the monitor it wasn't working completely correct.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just looked at the PCI Device and it says it on PCI slot 0, wtf is that? I
also looked under sound and creative's sound card is on PCI slot 4 and I
looked under network adaptors and the network card is on PCI slot 3.
Well lets see if a reply can answer this.

Yes, the answer is to take the computer to someone that understands
computers and have them fix it. Again, in all of your posts/threads you
show that you don't have even the hope of a clue.
Just about ANY computer technician in the world can handle this for you,
find one you've not used before, since you seem to insult them (based on
what you've said in your posts) and ask them to completely overhaul and
fix the system, tell them you want all drivers, all programs, etc...
updated and working as though it was a new machine - ask then to wipe it
and reinstall from scratch - should take about 2 hours of shop time. Oh,
yea, ask them to check all hardware, that you properly installed heat-
sink paste, etc... about another 30 minutes of time.

Wow, I'm not even going to try to read that. If you ever straighten
out, you should also learn how to formulate posts so they're readable.

Agreed - he does seem to spend an inordinate amount of time building/fixing
his machine/s. I can't help wondering if he ever actually *uses* them (other
than for posting newsgroup requests for help, that is...!)

Yeah it was kinda long-winded. I started rambling on. This is the network
card, or the sound card or both. I just wanted to see if someone had the
correct response. I'm not ashamed to lower myself and ask a question that
someone else can answer better.
Any more help would be greatly appreciated.

Son, all of your posts, clearly, absolutely, 120%, indicate you are
beyond help. I'm not being mean, I'm telling you that from all your
posts you've indicated that it's a lost cause.
You are wasting your time and effort on something that you're not going
to fix in any reasonable amount of time.
You should never get upset that something is beyond your ability,
understanding your limitations is what makes people great. It's not a
insult to admit that it's beyond you, it's not an insult to see your
posts, read all of your problem, and tell you that you need to take it
to someone that understands computers and how to build them.
Don't get mad, get smart - take the parts to a computer person and have
them build it and return the entire system in complete/working order,
tested, and validated. If you're not willing to do that, donate the
parts to someone/some group, and just buy a pre-built computer.
I'm not insulting you, I'm helping you, don't take it as an insult, this
is really to help you.
