Post subject: Details view is still a problem. Is there really no way to fix??? [WinXP, SP2]
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>basics (more info?)

I can't believe how stupid this problem is. I've been using various
WE replacements but when I found a solution that I thought worked re
Windows' WE, I stopped using them. I thought the WE problem was
licked. But problems keep recurring because even though my settings
last a little bit longer, eventually they revert back to some standard
only XP knows why. I've been trying to get WinXP's WE to work before
I go back to using the WE replacements. There are some WE addons that
work for Paint Shop Pro in displaying images that don't work on the
replacements at all. Since I've started using PSP extensively again,
I really need to resolve the WE details view problems once and for
all.

First off, I've had a bit more success in getting WinXP to remember
that it's supposed to obey me re details view in keeping only the
columns I want displayed and at the right sizes. By resetting all
folders first, that makes the settings last a tiny bit longer, but
still, XP keeps reverting. I've tried all the recommendations I've
been able to find over the last year and a half or so - the bag MRUs,
the bags thing, the reg file that increases the default number to a
number in the thousands and even found a few days ago a VBS file that
overrides some limitations on settings. Within the same session, the
folder view lasts a bit longer than ever but sooner or later, for
example, the name column reverts back to whatever it wants to in terms
of size from my 450 preferred, etc., etc. And things always get
skewered when opening a window since can't get WE to open windows
maximized by default.

Does _anyone_ have any insight into this whole details view problem?
Yes, I know that for many all the instructions seem to work, but I've
been on numerous machines and it just seems that WinXP has a lot of
problems in trying to remember how to deal with details view. Believe
me, if it weren't for the fat32 issue and drive sizes, I'd go back to
Win98SE in a heartbeat, since I've been extremely careful to make sure
any new program I get works on all OS versions.

Any help appreciated. I'm really stuck now between a rock and a hard
place since I'll be doing a lot of graphics work and the ability to
see my PSP format files in the WE preview is extremely time-saving.

thx in advance SurprisedD

Ignore any posts made by the Stalker Leythos, he's still in love with me.
He started stalking me after I spurned his advances towards me.
He said he would stop Stalking me If I stopped mentioning his name.
As you can see that does not work. He is a sick obsessive STALKER.

Well, since PSP's Browser works so well I'm not sure why win explorer's
views are so important, but ... I've seen no such problems here and have
a very high number of different explorer views set, and they stick. If
you've increased the number of remembered settings high enough as you
indicated, then you should be having no problems. I suspect the
culprit, assuming all your other work was done properly, to then be a
result of a system file corruption someplace. Sometimes the only cure
for that is to back up all your data and start over with a "clean
install" on XP. That should get rid of the corruption problems, but if
it's a conflict with some other program on your system, when you
reinstall that, it will likely revert to the problem state. I do think
I'd rebuild the OS though, starting right from deleting and recreating
the partitions/s. Then the SPupgrades of course, and the auto-updates.

Do you really want to trust someone that was banned from posting
directly to Microsoft Usenet servers, someone that has posted links to
pornographic materials on HIS WEBSITE, who's website is in the MVP HOST
Block list, and who provides a tool for your use that will block access
to reputable anti-malware sites without telling you he's doing it?

Do you really want to trust someone that has had to change their posting
identity after being busted by MS as a fake MVP?

Stalking, even in usenet is a crime, there are enough pages from your
filthy site to prove you're stalking me in your posts, I have them
documented and certified authentic - it's your call now Stalker.

I don't know either of you. And looking at links did nothing, so I'll
play it safe and not do anything from either.

Thanks. Wasn't aware of either name, now I am.
