Post subject: Default.rdp file appears in folder Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>general (more info?)
Hello, I'm using a WinXP-pro PC. Was experimenting with remote desktop (or
whatever allows you to access PC across the Internet from another PC.
Noticed Win left this file...
My Documents>
Default.rdp
Was wondering...
1) What's in this file, what's it for?
2) Does it drop this same file (or a file with same name) in every folder I
visit while using remote desktop?
3) This adds some clutter to my "My Docs" folder. If I erase it, what are
consequences, e.g. ...
"none, because it regen's it when _____". or
"It'll regenerate it when ____but you'll have to re-enter ______", or

Hi George,
Yes, it will be replicated next time you use RDP. It is the saved
settings of the last time you used it.

It is a configuration file. Like other content that is profile (User)
specific it defaults to My Documents. You can have individual
Rdp files for different remote computers. This way if you want
to change certain options ( Local Resources, Appearance ) you
can customize each location's Rdp file.
Otherwise the Default.Rdp will apply to all RD Sessions you run.

RDP files are the settings for Remote Desktop.
The first time you run it, it creates this file for you.
In practice, if you connected to multiple systems, you would right click
and 'edit' it, change the settings to different configurations,
IP/login/password etc, and then 'save as' to a new name like
"office.rdp" etc. Then you just double click and connect to that
client. I have 120 of them in a specific folder for all 120 clients.
Along with the default.rdp.
