For some unknown reason the date in my XP Pro SP2 "Date & Time Properties"
has suddenly decided to change the current day to a date 8 days ahead. Why -
heavens knows. I can select the date - click "apply" and then one second
later literally watch the highlighted date gently change from the current day
to 8 days ahead. I've tried everything I can think of - does anyone have any
ideas because it is a bit awkward sending mails etc as it looks as if I'm in
the future. Many thanks.

Disconnect your machine from the network. If the time now stays
put then it got itself synchronised to an external time source. It
could be your domain controller if you're on a domain.

Hi Pegasus
Disconnected from the network - changed date back to correct date from 8
days ahead - and then watched the highlighted date gently change back to 8
days in the future. (Not on a domain, just a home workgroup)

OK, this proves that the change is caused by an agent on your
machine. Now boot into Safe Mode and check if it still happens.
By the way, what exactly do you mean with "gently"?
