Post subject: IE 8 Beta, WinXP uninstall issue
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>general (more info?)

Hello all,
Winxp prof, SP3
I have found a very few post on this issue but ever since uninstalling IE 8
my machine has become a dog. I am getting this error:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Userenv
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1041
Date: 9/16/2008
Time: 8:04:28 AM
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer: INFODEV
Description:
Windows cannot query DllName registry entry for
{CF7639F3-ABA2-41DB-97F2-81E2C5DBFC5D} and it will not be loaded. This is
most likely caused by a faulty registration.

When I look up the Guid in the registery I see that it is under
GPExtensions.
The errors come in groups of 4 and all point to the GPExtensions guids.

Any idea how to get rid of these errors without rebuilding the machine.

Thanks,
LB

Open a run command and type in:
regedit click [OK]
Locate this Key:

HKLM,"Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\GPExtensions=
Delete this entry in the right pane/window
"{CF7639F3-ABA2-41DB-97F2-81E2C5DBFC5D}",,0x00000000,"Internet Explorer
Machine Accelerators"

Close the Registry Editor and Run disk clean up then run a clean up with
this tool:
http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds/downloading-slim
Then this command:
sfc /scannow

Might also remind you that the Microsoft definitoon of 'beta' differs from
that of most other coders. It means something like, "WHAAA-HEY, I 've
finally got it to compile without any Syntax Error messages!" <g>

IE Beta Public Newsgroup Support: microsoft.public.internetexplorer.beta

IE General newsgroup: microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed? What
anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall
(if any)? Were any of these applications running in the background when you
installed IE8 Beta (2) and/or WinXP SP3?

Post subject: Same issue on my side [Login to view extended thread Info.]

I have the same registry issue. I have Norton Internet Security installed (v 16.1.0.33). I am however not sure if it was installed when I installed IE8. (most likely not). However when I uninstalled IE8, it was there.
Now here comes the strange thing. Even though I uninstalled through "Add Remove programs" IE8 it is still there. I still have IE8 Beta (version: 7.0.5730.11) installed. In the "Add Remove programs" the IE8 Beta disappeared and only the Windows Internet Explorer 7 shows.
What do you advise.
Did anybody try what "nass" suggested?
