When you post at the top of a quoted thread it becomes a guessing game as to
who you're asking the question. It's best to scroll below the quoted stuff
before you type your response to keep things in order.

This can now be set as the automatic position when replying to messages by
going to tools/options/advanced and checking compose reply at bottom of
original message in the reply/forward heading.

Also you might check the message thread with the subject XP<----->Vista
Net(finally)working, for examples of the things that were keeping my system
from working and how I fixed it.

Failing that, you need to write down the exact response the system is giving
"WHEN you TYPE NET USE \\192.168.1.94" and post it in your question so
people can figure out what to tell you next. Smile

I'm having the exact same problem. My XP pro machine can see and acces my Vista machine with no issues. The reverse is not true. I can see the XP machine from Vista in Network and I can also ping by computer name and IP address. When I try to open a shared folder on the XP from Vista I get the dreaded "you might not have access. . ." message. I've tried nearly evrything from all the posts but still nothing. This really ought to be easier.

I have a laptop with visa home premium, two desktops with xp pro and
another laptop with xp home. My vista laptop came with norton antivirus
and internet securities 2007. What i did was i went to my firewall
setting in norton and configured the general rules. I ALLOWED netbios
by name and now my vista machine is able to see all computers on my
wireless/wired network.

I have been working on this same problem for a week with another one of the
MVPs (Chuck in a post call "Vista - XP Networking") - It is still not
resolved but I cannot say enough about following what they say step-by-step.

To all of the MVPs - - this seems to be an ongoing prevelent issue, will
Microsoft make a hotfix for XP or Vista to fix the issue? Or at least update
the "dignose" scan to be specific about the problem.

Erik,

As Operating System and applications become more complex, and easier to use,
it's easier to exceed the limits of the design, or to omit critical details.

What is the first question asked in a lot of threads here? "Have you set the
Network Location Type"? There's no hotfix for that. Nor can you hotfix pure
human neglect.
