How to restore the Recycle bin icon that has been accidentally deleted -

Hide the "Delete" command from Recycle Bin context menu

right click blank area of the desktop
select Personalize
in left pane select Change desktop icons
In desktop area select Recycle Bin

How it happened (probably) you right clicked the icon, selected delete
instead of 'Empty recycle bin".

I've had your prob where it has gone for no reason at all too!
When you look at change desktop icons, if it is checked still(!!!!!), untick
it, OK it, then retick it, OK it.
Should work, it did for me.

Right-click on the desktop, choose Personalize. In the L/H pane choose
"Change Desktop Icons" Make sure the Recycle Bin is checked.
