no speaker icon in taskbar or system tray

Post subject: no speaker icon in taskbar or system tray
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>vista>hardware_devices (more info?)

My icon in the bottom right corner of the speaker for adjusting volume
disappeared. Why and where did it go? how do I get it back

No, I know this applied in XP, but in Vista 64bit you have instead a
"sound" item under Control panel and you cant do as you suggest!

Hi:

If you go to Start-->Setting->Control panel ->Sound and Audio Devices you
will see in device volume a tick for Place Volume icon in the task bar.

Right click your Start orb and select Properties. In the Notification Area
tab check the Volume icon in System icons.
