Post subject: can't release ip Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>vista>networking_sharing (more info?)
i cant connect to the internet my ip is 169.254.X.X. which is a default ip
and when i try ipconfig/release the messege comes up " the requested
operation requires elevation what can i do to fix this and get on-line?

can you post the complete TEXT output of
ipconfig /all from an elevated cmd prompt and tell us what you are
connecting to? router? broadband modem directly?

Looks like you have two Ethernet adapters. Have you tried removing
the cable from where it is and plugging it into the other LAN port
and power cycling the broadband modem? (Or have you tried power
cycling the modem at all? try that first).
Does your user account have admin privileges?

yes i have tried the other port same outcome i spent 2 hours on the phone
with comcast tring to figure this out they reset my modem from there and i
have many times and i have admin im the only user

so you have unplugged the modem and plugged it back in yourself in
addition to the remote reset?
assuming you were able to connect last week, can you do a system
restore to a day last week before this issue started?
have you installed any updates? new programs?
