Post subject: multiple slideshows on dvd maker
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>vista>music_pictures_video (more info?)

Hello, i'm shocked at how limited the functionality seems in windows dvd maker.

all the pictures i add to it seem to default to a single folder / slideshow.

is there some creative way of getting multiple slideshows in as well as
simply a folder that people can manually scroll through when viewing the dvd?

is there a way of burning to a single dvd multiple times - ie. with windows
photogallery in conjunction with windows dvd maker - and having it viewable
on a regular dvd machine?

I just purchased a new laptop with Vista Premium. I love the Windows DVD
Maker. The slideshow is great. I really like the transition/animation
effect. But I have the same problem as Lon. I can only make 1 slideshow per
DVD. Is there an add-on I can install on the DVD Maker to create multiple
slideshows on 1 DVD disk?

I know I can use Window Movie Maker to create individual slideshow first,
then import them into the DVD Maker. But the slideshow creation in Movie
Maker is not as easy as the DVD Maker. I need to install a bunch of
transition add-ons in Movie Maker to add the animated (pan/zoom) transition.

If I do have to work around this and use Movie Maker to do the slideshow
first, do you know if I can use the add-ons created for Window Movie Maker 2?
Most of them didn't say they are Vista compatible. Any suggestions on a
good forum to look for Transtions add-on for Window Movie Maker (Vista)?

Since I can't see what DVD Maker does, having only Vista Business
where it isn't included, I can only hazard a guess. Neither
Microsoft's Movie Maker or DVD Maker supports real DVD authoring. All
you're getting probably is the ability to copy one video onto the DVD,
meaning you can't create any menu system for your DVDs, right?

If that is a yes, and that's what you want to do, ie have multiple
slideshows and/or videos on one DVD, then you need true DVD Authoring
capability and the ability to REALLY edit the video files. That's what
seperates the toy applications and the real thing. Of course not
everyone will not need or want to pay for pro grade software.

Guess what... like I said in another post today, we get into standards
and licensing legal BS where I explained WHY Microsoft doesn't include
a MPEG-2 encoder and how the patent/copyright is licensed by the MPEG
group. Same kind of deal with DVDs, this time the group is called the
DVD Forum, another international organization composed of hardware,
software, media and content companies that use and develop the DVD and
HD DVD formats.

Wikipedia.org actually has several fairly accurate and extensive
articles on DVD authoring, the DVD group, the various specs "books"
blue, red, orange, yellow, white, etc.. that set out the standards
everybody follows. Nope, you can't get a copy of the "books" they hold
closely guarded secrets, and AFAIK, you got to belong to the club and
pay big time to get a hold of the how-to contained there in.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD_authoring

The bottom line if your want to get fancy with DVDs, you need some DVD
Authoring software. I like DVD Architect from Sony which is packaged
with their flagship professional grade video editor called Vegas,
goofy name for software, but highly acclaimed.

Also look here to learn the "secret" to professional video touch up

http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/products/product.asp?PID=404&PageID=19

Click on to enlarge the two top images to see a "color corrector"
filter and the video scopes which show real time waveforms of your
video as it plays frame by frame. This is how professionals adjust for
errors; post production. You can't fix what's wrong, unless you SEE
what's wrong. The scopes show you, the filters allow you to fix it.
I'm guessing DVD Maker includes nothing like it nor any of the other
50 filters or scores of FX plug-ins.

You can get a watered down version in their Movie Studio+DVD for about
$90. The full suite combining Vegas, DVD Architect the ability to
encode Dolby 5-1 surround, plus a GREAT Main Concept MPEG-2 encoder
and software with all the bells and whistles will set you back more
than $500 and the learning curve is steep, but worth it.

Wow, a list of codecs and filters. None of which will get you multiple
videos on a DVD. But hey, thanks for playing, you're a find copy and
paste artist.

Windows DVD Maker can actually import multiple video clips. But it can only
create 1 slide show. For examples, I have 6 different video clips. I can
import all 6 video clips to Windows DVD Maker and each one will be a seperate
item on the main menu. But I want to add 4 different slideshows to the same
DVD. The Windows DVD Maker can only make 1 slideshow. I'll have to use
different program (such as Window Movie Maker or Window Photo Story) to make
the slide show and export it as WMV files. Then import the WMV files to
Windows DVD Maker. This way, I can import multiple slideshows (WMV files).

I am just wondering if Windows DVD Maker has an add-on to allow multiple
Slideshows creation. That will save me several steps.

Yup, i've been able to do multiple videos as well, and have converted my
slidedhows into video to do so.

however, this is still a bit of a pain, and would love to know when msft
will release an update to this.

another issue, i just noticed was that there seems to be a limit on the
number of videos? I had 30 or so clips, and it seemed to skip every other
one and only be able to burn about half of them?? i find this really odd as
it gave no warnings on any limits. anyone else encounter this?

these are serious issues that need to get fixed.
