Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>vista>print_fax_scan (more info?)

I have just built a 64 bit Ultimate system. All seem to work perfectly
with the exception of printing or installing local or a network printer.
I get spooler errors, print services crashes, and install gui crashes
when using the Lexmark x6570 install drivers for 64 bit OS. I have also
tried installing an HP driver for a printer I have in the home that is
attached to a netgear print server....so any workarounds or solutions ?
:(

thanks!

First thing you've got to check is if the Netgear Print Server is compatible
with 64 bit O/Ses or if there's some firmware you need to update for it.

As for the local Lexmark, you should use the 64 bit drivers and install them
BEFORE you think of connecting the printer. There is no reason why you
cannot install printers as far as MS is concerned, all my printers install
just fine whether the O/S is 32 or 64 bit and I have a good mixture of
Vista, Server 2008, Server 2003 R2 and XP Pro.

You are the Administrator aren't you?

Just sure you always get the latest drivers from the printer manufacturers'
websites.

Disable UAC. reboot. Install your printer. Turn on UAC and restart.
