these arent from my camera but im starting to realize that what i view as
normal thing to do for organizing pics isnt to normal for everyone else.
If i just have a folder of pictures i collected from web sites online or of
a vacation from two different cameras or pictures someone emails me. And i
store them in folders. In XP i would just put them in the order i wanted ...
i mean visually clicking and dragging them into an order without changing the
names individually or anything yet. Then i would select all when i had them
in my order and on the first picture right click on rename and put in "March
05' party (1)" or "NYC (1)" then everything in the folder would be renamed
in a sequential order. NYC (1) NYC (2) so on. In vista when i do this when i
do the rename the entire order will change and each time i do it the order
will be different so i cant even understand why its chosing the pattern it
does. In vista ill get something like NYC (22) NYC (3) NYC (Cool . Meanwhile
NYC (22) wasnt even the 22nd pic!! it was maybe the 4th!! So it renames them
crazy and jumbles the order. The sequence it makes isnt even in order and
the order of the pics isnt in the order i wanted. Also it will create a
double sometimes of a pic overwriting another one. Ive basically come to the
conclusion that this maybe as simple as it was in xp cant be done in vista.
Razz I dont care or want to sequence them to when i uploaded them or to when
they were taken by a camera and all that. I just want them sequenced in the
order i have them in the folder. My only other option is putting them in my
order and name and numbering them one at a time Razz

Yes I guess I did misunderstand..... even easier open the folder and
uncheck "autoarrange" To align your pictures click on "align to grid".
Does this help?

The problem is that I have to translate from Dutch, with Image I mean the
third item from the left on the menu bar
Of course you should have a map for your photo's ready in Explorer, so I
repeat with a little addition:

go to Explorer
make a map for your photo's (e.g.in Documents folder)
copy or load your photo's from your camera in that map
click > organize (top left) and click >menu bar
on the menubar click Image(?) and >Details
drag files in the right order
select all
rename

I swear to you that it works.....

I thnk so Turning off auto arrange seemed to do it. I tried it a few times
and it worked thanks a lot!! I guess i turned it off trying different
things a few months ago and thought the holding shift thing did it.

You are certainly welcome, keep your fingers crossed *thxheynow*, I am
sure that this was the problem though. The folder view "auto arrange" is
a default value. You should be okay now. ( hopefully....one never knows
for sure!)

hey, thx... did you ever find a satisfactory solution to your problem. i
can't help totallly, because i don't know where i found the right button...
but

i organized all my photos, did a batch rename, which also renumbered, and
exported from my "management" program into photogallery. when it got there
the photos were all mixed up, but the right numbers were with the right
pictures.

somehow, somewhere in the menus, i found a button that let me "sort by
name." that rearranged my photos quite nicely, in the order i wanted.

NOW, if anyone knows, where was that? i know i'll be needing it again.

thanks
