Hello- I was having the identical error message after I installed a trial
version of a decoder for yEnc encrypted files. I uninstalled the
application, called Ydcode, and my connection issues were completely
resolved. I'm running Vista Ultimate SP1 without any problems at this point.
I've noticed that some folks point to Vista as the source of their troubles,
but in 99% of cases, poorly written applications are the cause of system
stability issues, not the operating system. Vista has proven to be rock
solid for me.

Yes, I agree. Poorly written third party apps are the cause of Vista problems.

I've found that OeyEnc works under Vista and Vista SP1.

http://www.mutexed.com/code/OeyEnc/

It does have a minor problem though; if you start Windows Mail the
regular way, it can't decode yEnc. However, if you start it through
the OeyEnc loader, it will decode yEnc but is unable to open .eml
attachments. Therefore, you may need to switch between these
methods occasionally by marking a post unread, then shutting down
Windows Mail and restarting it with the other method.

Thanks, Robert, I'll give that a try.
