The latest update for the sound driver was earlier than the one that was
installed from the manufacturer.

I just looked at the Toshiba website to make sure. It was the same version
(not earlier) as the one that was previously installed on my laptop.

But the date of the driver is not the issue. The issue is, is the driver
you are using the one that Toshiba releases to its customers since laptop
vendors often modify the chip vendors drivers so that they will work with
their laptops since the laptop vendors MOBOs are customized designs which is
exactly why the generic chip drivers from WinUpdate do not work.

I think you might have misunderstood. Let me clarify. The driver version
number was the exact same version number as my previous audio driver, which
was later replaced by the windows update driver. So, the driver listed
currently on the Toshiba download site is the same version as my previous
driver version (the one that was replaced). However, with the previous
version I could not update to SP1 because of compatibility issues (an
assumption on my part since as soon as I updated the audio driver through WU
I was then offered SP1).

You need to contact Toshiba support contact to find out what driver from
them you should have from them and that you should have installed and
running.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, I have already done that as well and
their solution was try installing the previous driver and hope for no
incompatibilities with SP1 and if their were then uninstall SP1, download
the standalone and reinstall it that route <sigh>.

To solve problem when rollback driver is grayed out:
For Toshiba Satellite P105 w/vista home prem. 32bit
1) Click plus by sound video and game controllers in device manager
2) Right-click Conexant High Definition Audio Driver link
3) Left-click uninstall (BE SURE TO CHECK BOX TO DELETE DRIVER
SOFTWARE)
4) Reboot to bring up automatic "new hardware scan" which will find the
original driver and automatically install that driver.
