Post subject: Can't forward/send emails and log on keeps popping up Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>vista>mail (more info?)
Hi,
I just got this computer 2 days ago, and I am getting quite frustrated. I
signed up for Windows mail...and it hijacked all my messges from Yahoo. From
this discussion group, I was able to fix that problem. But now I am trying
to forward the messages back to my Yahoo account and I am not having any
luck. I keep getting my the user name and password request and as soon as I
enter it, it immediately pops up again. I have tried checking the box saying
that it is the same log in...no luck. Added my username and password....no
luck. I have both checked and unchecked the authentication box...no luck.
I have received various error messages ...but here is oneAccount: 'Yahoo',
Server: 'plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR
popgate unknown command', Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error:
0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18

Go to Tools, Accounts, select that mail account, Properties, Servers.
Uncheck the box for "Log on using Secure Password Authentication."
That option is not used by any mail provider I know of.

Do you get an error message? If so, right-click on the error message,
copy, then paste it into a reply here.
Which antivirus are you running?

Now this message popped up about 20 minutes later:

inactivity. Subject 'Fw: Anan Photos Etc', Account: 'Yahoo', Server:
'plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 465, Secure(SSL): No,

Well, you got rid of one error, but a different problem remains.
That new type of error is often caused by interference from
a non-compatible antivirus program. Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus must be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.
If turning off the email scanning function does not resolve your problem,
consider upgrading to Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone to
suffering bad effects from overly aggressive antivirus programs.

I have McAfee and also Spybot. Aren't we most vunerable for virus via email?
Isn't it "dangerous" if I turn off email scanning?
If I have to upgrade, I am not interested and I will go back to Yahoo, but
at least I want to be able to forward all my messages back into Yahoo
(unfortunately, I lost all my attached documents when Windows mail hijacked
all my messages, but at least I need these emails in my yahoo box).
I now also have a new problem with my bluetooth. I was able to hotsynch my
palm centro 2 days ago when i got my computer, but I kept on getting a
message at start up that I needed to install a driver for the bluetooth. I
installed the Toshiba driver, and now I can't hot synch. I have tried to
remove the Toshiba driver, but now it doesn't recognize the blue tooth at all.
