You've left out a great deal of important information, but I'm going to
essay some guesses:

1. You are trying to back up your entire computer to a CD using either the
Vista backup program or some other backup program. This won't work.

2. You have an OEM computer (HP, Sony, etc.) that has a special partition
that hosts a restore image so you can restore your computer to factory
condition and this is your Drive D:\.

If my Crystal Ball(tm) was working:

1. Purchase an external hard drive and an imaging/backup program like
Acronis True Image. Create an image of your system and do incremental
backups, saving the images and backups onto the external hard drive. You
can also simply copy data to the external hard drive regularly manually or
with a program like Second Copy. Occasionally burn your data - not your
entire computer! - to CD/DVD-R and put the disk(s) in a safe place.

2. If you have put any files onto your Drive D:\ and it *is* the restore
partition, remove those files carefully (making sure to only remove files
*you* put there) and don't touch Drive D:\ again.

If my Crystal Ball(tm) was cloudy:

What do you mean by "disk D"?
I hope you don't mean your D: Recovery Partition.
If you do, leave it alone!

That is put on your HD in case of System failure, for you to put your
computer to out-of-the-box status.
