Absolutely. By "annoyingly preinstalled" I meant preinstalled IN an
annyoing way... of course it's preinstalled. I've purchased several macs
and windows machines... both have preinstalled OSs but with the macs
they give you the discs, so you're not just stuck with it if something
goes wrong. It's annoying that if they're going to bundle an OS with a
machine, they don't include the discs. It's also annoying that if
they're going to cripple an OS to work with only one language, that
during the setup wizard they don't at least give you the option to
decide which language that is going to be!!

How amazingly perceptive. Of course it's a rant.

Two questions. 1) have you ever BEEN to a computer store? 2) have you
ever been to latin America?
In Canada, computer store employees often know next to nothing and will
tell you whatever you want to hear. In latin America, people speak
Spanish. If I was fluent in Spanish, this wouldn't be an issue now,
would it? Of course I asked the computer store employees if I could
switch it over to my language, and they said "yes no problem". We
didn't get into technicalities because that was about all we could
communicate.
Backing up their answer was my knowledge of Microsoft's massive launch
campaign for this software touting it as "bridging culture gaps" or
whatever. That and I physically went into the OS to try and change it,
and noticed it had several options and help topics regarding changing
the OS language. Since it was all in Spanish, I assumed it was my
technical inability at the time, and not the intentional crippling of
the bundled operating system that prevented me from finalizing the
language change.

Wow, again you're like a psychic or something. It's not deep down in
my bones - I actually said just that at the top of my post. I literally
said just that. It was a stupid mistake to think that the largest
software company in the world could make something usable out of the
box, and yes, I'd like to blame someone else but I can't, because
really, I should have known from the start that this product would be
garbage.

Absolutely. Thanks to froggie's excellent little piece of software,
I've got it all working with no problem at all. I advise others to go
that route. How is it that microsoft could not have just made it work
properly in the first place?

So then, you have a beef with the computer manufacturer that didn't include
a separate disk, even though virtually all makers of Windows machines have
done this for years. Old news. Nobody likes it, but whadya gonna do?

You went into a store where you couldn't communicate the language spoken.

You are unhappy that a salesperson was more interested in the sale than
giving you an informed answer to your question. Like that should surprise
anyone. (Or maybe he would have, had you known the language of the region).

You tried and failed to make technical changes on a computer that you were
unable to "read" because you don't understand Spanish. You plunked down
your hard earned cash on the assumption that you could do it later without
getting on the internet and accessing a group like this - or other
resource - to find out for sure if it was REALLY possible to do what you
wanted to accomplish.

AND, you come to a Vista group to rant and describe to the world how poorly
you make decisions. AND, blame Microsoft/Vista for your foolishness.
That's real hutzpah! Most people would have been too embarrassed to
publicize this to the world.

YOU screwed up from start to finish. Move on, my friend. Assuming that you
can download Vista drivers for your computer, buy an OEM copy of Vista an
install it from scratch. Copies are really quite reasonable from
Newegg.com.

Or throw it into the garbage an buy a Mac.

Hi David,
Thanks for your helpful replies. Evidently in your zeal to type out a
witty reply you missed the bit where I solved the problem. My beef was
that I shouldn't have to. It should go without saying that any modern
OS have the ability to change languages. It's so very basic... it's
been one of those basic features for years.

I think you need to accept the fact that I'm ranting about this as a
very dissatisfied customer of Microsoft, and move on. My gripe stands
regardless of whether you so insultingly question the basis for my
assumptions. I would guess that most involved in this thread have been
in the same position as myself, so you're insulting them as well.

Cheers,
Josh

I went back over your posts and can't find anyplace where you mentioned your
fix. Only that you thanked someone for creating a third party program but
you didn't say that you had used it.

There haven't been that many posts to this newsgroup about people wanting to
change the language of their OS on this newsgroups so I guess I haven't
insulted too many people.

The title of this thread is I believe "change vista language".
